Arthun was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1953 and received a Bachelor
of Fine Arts from the University of New Mexico in 1976. In the 70's
he was represented in several New Mexican group shows, and in 1980 began
having solo gallery shows. He began his career as a printmaker, but
evolved into a constructivist and collage artist.
In 1986 he was part of the "New American Talent" exhibition at the Laguna Gloria Museum in Austin Texas; in 1987 he was in the San Diego Art Institute's 33rd National Exhibition; and in 1988 was part of the Florida National 88" at Florida State University. In 1993 he was represented in an exhibition at the New Mexico Museum of Fine Arts.
Arthun painted the murals for Oliver Stone's Natural Born Killers in 1993, worked on developing "Art in the Open" in Los Angeles in 1994, and served on the Board of Directors of the Contemporary Art Society of New Mexico.
Upon joining the MADI movement in 1994, he exhibited in MADI shows in Italy, France, Spain, Hungary, and New Mexico.
