Iommi
was born in Rosario, Argentina, in 1937. He studied with sculptor Enrico
Forni before he became enchanted with the abstract painting of Alfredo Hlito.
In 1945 Iommi joined the AssociaciÛn Arte Concreto-InvenciÛn
and participated in their first exhibition in 1946. He was introduced to
the works of Vantongerloo and Max Bill by Tomas Maldonado and Claudio Girola
and joined the Grupo de Artistas Modernos in Buenos Aires.
In 1953 he created a monumental sculpture for LeCubusiers Casa Curuchet
in Buenos Aires.
Iommi has exhibited throughout Europe and in New York as well as in South America. He is one of the most important abstract sculptors of his generation and is noted for the airiness of his sculptures.
