Pinna was born in 1939 in Sassari, but since 1974 has resided in Verona. He teaches painting, sculpture, and graphic arts at art institutes in both Sassari and Verona. From his first works he realized the importance of geometric design and tridimentionality. In 1994 he participated in the Venice Biennial, and by the late 1990s was a part of Arte Structura in Milan and the MADI group.
