Permanent Collection

The permanent collection spans years from 1934 to 2005 and is expanding rapidly. Since the movement was begun by a Uruguayan artist living in Argentina, many of the earlier works in the collection are by artists from those countries.

When the principal founder, Carmelo Arden Quin moved to Paris in 1947, he became the center of MADI in Europe. Many artists traveled to Paris from Venezuela and the USA and were influenced by Arden Quin's work. The ties to Argentina remained strong, and when Salvador Presta traveled from there to Italy, he and another Italian, Lorenzo Piemonti, founded MADI Italia, which has grown to be the largest of all the MADI groups.

These artists, as well as artists from Hungary, Japan, Spain, Great Britain, Mexico, the USA and other countries in South America, are represented in the collection.
