Juried by Vincent Falsetta, Artist and Professor of Studio Art at University of North Texas (Denton, TX)
A juried exhibition recognizing promising emerging artists opens July 15 with a reception and awards presentation by Juror Vincent Falsetta. Conceived by artist Rebecah Beauchamp, this exhibition was designed to expose new talent as well as show contemporary trends in geometric art.
This generation of artists embraces new materials and media, reinterpreting themes found in modernism with fresh enthusiasm and wit. Garland Fielder's work playfully remembers minimalism, as does Adela Andea, while adding her reaction to sociopolitical issues raised by rapid globilization and technological advances. Issues of consumerism, consumption, and ritual inform the work of other included artists. Works examining the visual system of organizing and cataloging information using the grid reference the abundance of knowledge available today. Several of the works, including Orna Feinstein's "Morel #2", reflect on the complex repetition of geometric forms found in both macro and micro systems within our organic universe. The artists selected for this exhibit prove that geometric art is conceptual and thoughtful as themes echoed from a recent past merge with current societal dilemmas.
