Geometric Interpretations: Works using Paper
June 11 - September 26

Meticulously cut paper woven and shaped into undulating waves of geometric form. This characterizes the work by Rusty Scruby included in Geometric Interpretations: Works using Paper opening June 11. The exhibit curated by Ruth Anderson explores the use of paper in both flat presentations and complex dimensional works. Pieces by Flo Barry, Ronald Watson and Robert McAn are included along with the work of over 20 Dallas artists.

Recycled paper from mailings creates an overwhelming sea of barcodes and privacy liner patterns in Flo Barry’s work It’s in the Mail included in the exhibit. Her work has shown throughout the United States and is found in corporate and private collections. She was featured in a highly acclaimed show at the National Textile Museum in Washington, D.C. and holds degrees from Cleveland Institute of Art and Case Western Reserve University.

Rusty Scruby draws from his interest in science and music to create his multifaceted woven paper constructions. During his senior year in aerospace engineering, Scruby took a detour into music composition resulting in a fusion of visual and musical concepts. This ordered chaos is apparent in his work, Sea & Stars, where the rise and fall of parabolic planes suggests a Bach two part invention.

In Exordium, by Ronald Watson, a subtractive polyhedral form of white watercolor paper is surrounded by a nexus of bisecting wooden lines. Watson’s work suggests the interplay of mathematical relationships or communication models. Since 1994, Watson has served as Professor of Art and Chair of Texas Christian University’s Department of Art and Art History. He has exhibited nationally and is in public and corporate collections including the National Collection of Fine Arts,

Washington, D.C. He has received the Artist Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts and served as a consultant to their Art in Public Places program.

Robert McAn graduated with a Master of Fine Arts in Photography and Painting from the University of North Texas. His works are included in major private and corporate collections. McAn has been an adjunct professor at both Austin College in Sherman and at the University of North Texas in Denton.

Other artists included in the exhibition are: Robert A, John Samuel Abrams, Ruth Anderson, Charles Baber, Lane Banks, Tim Bolt, Tish Brewer, Wayne Brown, Ann Derulle, Alan Engisch, Selso Garcia, Jan Dreskin Haig, Olivette Hubler, Clint Ray, Elle Schuster, and John Voelker.
